Another excellent Cottesmore Aviation Group visit and this time to Mildenhall. Many thanks to Martin for arranging it and to the USAFE guys who made the visit very enjoyable. We spent the morning at a 352nd SOG MC-130H ‘Combat Talon II’ Hercules that was about to go in for deep maintenance. It was to be stripped down, to check for fatigue cracks amongst other things, and then put back together again. For lunch we had pizza, ‘soda’ followed by cheescake, and in the afternoon we got close up and personal to a 351st ARS KC-135R. The cracked windscreen is not from a bird strike but apparently ‘went’ during normal flight. Although we had wall to wall sunshine, there was a cold wind blowing and the thermometer on my motorbike was reading +4C when I parked up at home.

Cracking shots. Glad I wasn’t on the flight deck of the KC-135 when that window went. The Idea of brown underwear doesn’t appeal. Looks like you had a good, if cold, day out.
