XL426 was 'The Number of the Beast' (Vulcan)

Bruce Dickinson, better known as the lead singer with Heavy metal giants ‘Iron Maiden’ was on hand at Southend airport today as the Vulcan Restoration trust held its annual open day. Bruce took the co pilots seat as 426 blasted down Southends busy runway despite less than favourable conditions.

A big thankyou must go to all the volunteers who worked so tirelessly throughout the day with a special mention going to the engineering team who rectified a brake problem just in time for the taxi.

Here is an initial selection.

Nice pics.

I’ve met Bruce three times, he’s a friend of a friend. Nice bloke.

Neal

He came across very well at Southend, a very down to earth guy who just loves flying.

BTW, He said he would love to fly a Viscount, if there are any still operational.

Yeah – we’re saving up for the next repaint – it’d be nice to have it done professionally with a really good protective coating but that does run to a few quid! Many thanks to those who came and supported us despite the foul weather!

Not to poke fault but hes looking a bit rough round the cockpit again? Still, she runs and moves so if the paint looks rough who cares right?

Heavy metal God and aviation enthusiast. I just had a quick look on Wikipedia and found that he is a skilled fencer and flies Boeing 757 charter jets for the UK charter airline Astraeus (which Iceland Express leases planes from) where he is employed as First Officer. He was taught to fly by British Airways commercial pilot Captain Phil Dales.

But Steve Harris has got a pub in his house though.
