Hi all,
my company (thank goodness), has just booked flights for me to Berlin next week (Thu-Fri), however, on the friday, only seats left were on the 8pm flight back to Heathrow, and £500, I know it’s not long left, but that is crazy, thought the Lufthansa flight was off!?

I think more companies need to do the same as my mum’s.
The company itself finds the lowest fare it can, then they tell the person who’s travelling to find the lowest fare they can.
If you can find a cheaper flight than the company, then the company pays you 1/2 the difference as a “reward”.
This ‘reward’ can actually end up being quite impressive on long-haul flights where ticket prices can vary massively.

believe or not, of their 5 flights on the friday, they only have 2 (business on my flight), and 6 left on the 7am flight! (and this is with 5 flights/ day).
I would fly with another airline, however, I’ll be flying into Heathrow hours before I head to berlin.

Your company clearly has to economy measures and is probably like mine in that it books through an Agent like Hotelscene, who have deals they do with the airlines which aren’t necessarily the cheapest but they get a cut out of it!
Go to the Easyjet website and you will see their lowest rate from Gatwick to Berlin is £35.49 !!! Their most expensive return fare is £189.49,so someone needs to seriously address this with whoever is booking your flights as no way would I pay £500 to fly back from Berlin!!!
