In 1993 when i travelled Airtours on their 757 to Tenerife you got
1) Free headphones
2) Sweet before take off
3) Inflight meal
4) IFE
5) Option of smoking or non smoking
Today if you fly Thomas Cook (Todays predecessor) you get.
1) No Meal
2) No IFE
3) No smoking
4) No sweet before take off
5) People making their own IFE.
How times change,,,

I’ve heard a piece of paper rolled into a cone works quite as a makeshift speaker! 🙂

I really miss the overhead projectors and/or the TV’s that drop down from the ceiling with the one film on the whole 8hr flight, and normally a lame film because there were kids in the cabin!
Mr Giblets, take a flight on an AA B757-200. You won’t be disappointed.

BA AKL-LHR August 1992/ BA LAX-LHR February 2012 (nearest equivalent): no difference at all – that’s the problem.
Same aircraft; same interiors; same cabin crew (probably)…

The headphones that were plastic pipes, apparently some airlines still have them!

Those items were never free
They were included in the much higher ticket price
There were demand to do away with such thing as you were paying for things you may not need or want
This is what happens now where you pay a basic price and anything extra you buy on the day.

Thank the lord you don’t have to put up with smoking on flights, especially if it’s long haul, who wants to put up with such a vile habit …
Sweets before flights – nice idea but it’s not exactly expensive to buy a pack of mints or something before boarding …
IFE – people make it when there is none because these days they’re iPods or people choose to read a book
In-Flight Meals – not exactly a 5 star Michelin gourmet … people would always complain about flight meals anyway, so they were scrapped when economy changed
