Virgin flght to Orlando, landed safely back at LGW, chutes deployed and everyone off safely, but LGW shut as runway is blocked etc….

Smoke?

Its amazing the effect 1000KG of peppers can have on the sensors in the cargo hold!! Passing through FL 20 alarm sounds, time to go home! Going home alarm sounds time and time again (12).
Back on ground alarm still going the game, time for a rapid evacuation as the trailing fire crews cant see any sign of fire but we dont want another Manchester.
The crew did the right thing, if there had been a fire it would still have been the same out come, but the a/c would have burnt on its own.

Yes, exactly. I saw that too.
I wonder if people are prompted by reporters to react in a certain way.
Did we have any wringing hands?

And, of course, the BBC will want a nice panicked reaction with which to titillate the viewing public.

Tell me about it. I saw a “vox pop” the other day where people were complaining about the injuries they sustained from the escape slide / evacuation procedure 😮 would you rather be dead?!

However, “wobbly plane” definitely not ideal.

Why did they not used the second runway?…OK it’s normally the taxyway and flights would have been much restricted, but some movement would have been possible.

Where do the press find these people ?

Another passenger, Mark Bell, from Bracknell, said: “I knew something was
wrong when we took off. The plane was really wobbly. The cabin crew made
things worse. They were all really panicked.

Liam Moore, a passenger on the Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which had 13 crew
and 299 passengers on board, said everybody was “really shaken up”.

Florida is hardly an upmarket destination now, is it?

Seriously, they are just members of the travelling public, most of whom know nothing of aircraft except that they can fly and that they take you on holiday.

And, of course, the BBC will want a nice panicked reaction with which to titillate the viewing public.

Bmused, I was shocked too when they said ‘a Virgin A330 made an emergency landing..’ and I looked up to see an A330 on the TV! I thought with the A330’s being so new they would have, like you say, mentioned a B747 or an A340!

Frankly I’m more stunned a reporter got the aircraft model right.
I’m still waiting for some news reader to proclaim a “Virgin Atlantic Airbus 747XWB made a crash landing”

Quite.

Tom Alridge said one of the cabin crew panicked upon landing.

“She was screaming – ‘Get off, get off’ – she was literally pushing people down the chute,” he said.

Sounds to me like she was doing her job rather well!

A330/A340 d’oh! I didn’t think to count the engines!

(As I mostly inhabit the historic board I’ll claim that modern civvie types all look too similar these days :o.)

Thanks for the correction. Perhaps the mods can correct the thread title to save my ongoing embarrasment!

Good to see it ended so well.

Done!

Aircraft brought to a halt parallel with the fire station. Good thinking there by the crew.

We must have spotted story at about same time ATR, I double checked it before posting a new thread myself – you must have posted while I was typing mine up.

Maybe mods can merge threads?
