I’m building the kit my parents bought me last Christmas (I know, I’m slow!), and am busy trying not to go hell for leather at it like I used to. I haven’t built any other kit since at least 1995, so I’m very rusty, and I’m hoping for a few handy hints. I’ve just spent about an hour getting lost in Britmodeller and the like, so if anyone else has built this I’d like to hear!
As I’m so rusty the intention is to build from the box, barring if I can get decals for AJ-W as Les Munro signed the box for me. I’m also restricted to brush painting.
So… Has anyone found an AJ-W deal sheet?
How do you go about masking off the fuselage for the boundary between the camouflage and the lower surface?
Has anyone used the transparency mask kits you can buy, if so how did you find them?
Hope that’s not too much asking!
Many thanks,
Adrian
PS No, I don’t know what I’m going to do with it when I’ve finished it! Possibly move to a bigger flat so I can make space for a display cabinet…

I think the first thing you should do is go out and get another kit to build. Leave this one in the signed box 😮
Too late – it was already open and started when the opportunity came to get it signed!
Still hunting the elusive AJ-W decals, may just have to get a generic set of Bomber Command ones and get creative… I do appreciate the suggestions, though!
Thanks,
Adrian

Thanks, chaps! I’ve ended up with Revell tape as our local supplier seems to be that or Airfix products, but I’m sure it’ll do the same job. Still hunting decals…

I also use Tamiya tape, works well. If the surface is a bit uneven and there is a chance of seepage I give it a (very) light pass with the airbrush using either the colour which is to be masked or a varnish(matt/matt-satin/gloss), As for the decals you could try these guys:

They have a huge decal collection.
Good luck with the kit.

The only question I can help with is masking. I use Tamiya masking tape which is brilliant. Its not too sticky so wont take the paint off underneath it or leave a sticky residue on the model. Actually, you are not as slow as me. I’m currently building the kit my parents bought for me two Christmases ago, an Airfix F27 Friendship.
