Thomson's ageing fleet

Thomson’s fleet of ageing aircraft makes me wonder with what and when will they be replaced.
They are due to replace their 767’s with 787’s when they are finally delivered but what will replace their 757-200WL? especially on journeys to places such as Cape Verde, the 737’s don’t have the range, airport’s too small for anything bigger than a 757’s.

The 757s are being replaced with the 737-800 aircraft. Yes, there will be capacity cuts on certain routes when compared to the 757 but the 738 can pretty much do all the routes the 757 serves at the moment. . . This includes flights to Cape Verde which it is more than capable of doing and does do with other TUI group airlines across Europe.

The small fleet of Airbus A320/1s will be retired from the fleet by the end of Summer 2012. The plan is for most of the 757s that are ending there leases to be retired from the fleet by around 2015 and replaced by the 738.

As for the 767 aircraft once the 787s eventually arrive, those 767 next due with a major check or nearing the end of their lease will be the first to leave the fleet. The first one is expected to leave before the end of 2013. I suspect the ex-TOM 767s will go to other TUI group airlines for a short while just as they have been doing now.

lets not forget also that Thomas Cook has some A330s that are ex Airours and must be at least 13 years old and used excessively

A slight bit of thread creep ! At the moment B757 G-BYAX is with Air Livery at Norwich in one of the spray hangars ? Is it coming out as just a re-spray or is it going elsewhere ?? The only rumour I have heard is possibly “Allegiant” (winter lease or sale) ??? On their website it says 2 more 757’s to be delivered late 2011.

Why should they feel the need to replace the 757s? They are ideal for the services Thomson uses them for and the modern airliner just seem to be able to go on forever.

Have you seen BA’s 747-400s? If ever a group of aircraft could be considered to be getting on a little, it is them. I am due to fly one to Washington DC next April, so I’ll let you know what they’re like.
I’m not sure what Thomson will use. Would the latest generation of 737s have the range (NEO)?
