1st ANA service ready 787 rolled out

Hey all,

Just came across some pictures I found on the Boeing Airplanes Y-frog feed. There are a few pictures of the plane in a special livery and some more of the interior which looks very nice.

The 787 will be more comfortable than previous aircraft, but its performance is not solely the result of a composites fuselage [unless you count GLARE as composites as well…].

GLARE is certainly a composite material. It is very different from CFRP, though.

GRP & plywood are other composite materials used in aircraft construction. I wouldn’t want to say that any particular characteristic of cabin atmospheres was common to aircraft using those materials, or due to their use.

“Composites” is an over-used word in this context. It is insufficiently precise, & is often misused to mean CFRP, ignoring other composite materials.

Lance is taking on the cool – ‘Kool-Aid’ terminology

Well, no.

The promised delivery date to All Nippon was Q3 of 2008.

Let’s not overdose on the Corporate Kool-Aid, amigos. 😎

Lance is taking on the cool – ‘Kool-Aid’ terminology.

Sure it’s late (some may say very late – but I shall add in the interests of safety and delays in the supply chain) but I meant the revised delivery date to ANA of Q3 2011.

IMO most will be happy to see it go in to commercial service and also see how a new high composite built aircraft handles in the hands of the ‘customers’.:D

Let’s not all forget one of the biggest sellers of the cabin: the enhanced passenger comfort that comes from increase in internal pressure and as such, higher humidity and lower perceived altitude.

Traditional cabin altitudes are 7,000-8,000 ft.

The 787s is gonna be around 6,000 ft.

The A380 is at 5,000 ft.

Legacy aircraft have single digit cabin humidity in cruise, the 787 has a cabin humidity of ~14% in cruise and the A380 about 15-25%.

The 787 will be more comfortable than previous aircraft, but its performance is not solely the result of a composites fuselage [unless you count GLARE as composites as well…].

Here’s a news item from Boeing and a Boeing ANA 787 interior pic.

Here’s Boeing’s simple but effective news item http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=13&item=1633
Boeing, ANA Roll Out the First 787 Dreamliner that Will Enter into Service
EVERETT, Wash., Aug. 6, 2011 – “ANA’s first 787 Dreamliner rolled out of Boeing’s paint hangar in Everett, Wash., on Aug. 6. The airplane bears a special livery that signifies the core elements of the airline’s service brand – innovation, uniqueness and the inspiration of modern Japan.”

The previous pics of the interior (IMO) have not done the actual features too much justice.

Here’s an image of ANA 787 interior (Non economy) from Boeing.

It;s getting close to the promised delivery to ANA:D

You seem to take objection to my opinion. Why? The Boeing 787 has everything to prove at this point.

Just as I cannot prove that the windows will be troublesome, you cannot prove that they will not. That is why opinions are opinions and not facts.

I am far from being pro-Airbus/Boeing/Embraer/Tupolev et al.

Airbus FBW can be maintenance headaches.

You sound like a lot of the Airbus fanboys on A.net. They are always looking for a reason to cast negativity on a positive event.

Who said the cabin would be anything other than evolutionary?
Why did you expect more?

The windows are far from a gimmick, they are functional and help reduce weight.

Folks thought the FBW systems on the first A320s would be maintenance headaches.
They are not.

The windows are a gimmick. I personally can see them being are maintenance headache.

It’s an evolutionary cabin, nothing more. It remains to be seen how popular it’ll be with passengers.

What do you expect? Floating seats and waterfalls?

I bet you won’t find those windows on any other widebody.

I wasn’t overly taken with the interior. I don’t think it is revolutionary, or anything better than you can get on other wide-body aircraft. I am sure it’ll be very quiet. Economy seems to get quite a bit of legroom.
