Malaysia Airlines goes infant-free on the A380, too
Jun 27th 2011, 23:57 by N.B. | SAN FRANCISCO
MALAYSIA AIRLINES, which previously banned infants from first-class cabins on its 747-400s, will do the same on its newer Airbus A380s, its chief exeutive, Tengku Azmil Aziz told Australian Business Traveller on Sunday via Twitter. Every business traveller knows that a crying infant can ruin what otherwise might be a fairly restful night in first or business class. But sometimes new parents need to fly, too. Should they and their offspring really be relegated to the back of the plane for the greater good?

Infants aren’t able to tell adults what is disturbing them
Infants aren’t able to tell adults what is disturbing them. Even if the mother – infant bond is strong the communication is hard to comprehend at infancy. Some infants may given the circumstances presenting be restless expressed as loud noise “I am wanting something done, I am not comfortable, get me out of here I am an infant (celebrity of a kind)”.:D
I think under the circumstances a compromise would be that as part of the booking conditions where an infant was in mother’s arms, lap, whatever (no charge passenger) then if the infant was with the mother in First or Business Class, if the infant became restless the mother must agree to transfer for the duration of the disturbance to a cabin crew seat outside First/Bus. Class, (naturally the cabin crew member would sit in the mother’s seat if flight were full and there was anything untoward en route other than noisy infant).
The blanket ban by MA is a drastic one and I am sure one of their more balanced ‘bean counters’ will make some impact soon to make it less harsh.
It’s a tough one as on transatlantic flights extremely wealthy, airline revenue boosting parents fly with children including sometimes infants and it would be a completely uneconomical thing to consider turning their business down by relegating them to economy.
We were all infants at one stage in our lives and I know I flew a long long way and back on B.O.A.C. with my parents and supposedly everyone loved me on the flight. I’d be in the ‘luggage hold’ now if some of you had your way, just on the off chance that I may not be a good infant.

What a great idea, I wish they could also apply this to restaurants. 😀
They just need to apply it to screaming toddlers as well.

As the parent of a small child I should be outraged and all that but damn good idea I say, people want peace and quiet and whilst most parents are responsible and can manage their kids it is never easy and on long flights kids will be a pain in the rear.
27vet, kids should go in the cargo hold along with other animals!:dev2:
I’m a dad too (you can see my daughter in my albums). When she was two years old, we were flying from LBV to BZV(fuel stop) to JNB on Interair(South African one) and the captain happened to be an ex colleague and offered us the cockpit seats (no ban at that time) as we had been bumped due to **long story**. So she got a cockpit ride:D in a 737 classic with two takeoffs and two landings and was ever so well behaved… not a squeak out of her. Unfortunately I never had a camera.:(

Reminds me of my flight a few months back on DEL-LHR, kid in my section of Y was screaming bloody murder while the mother slept and father watched the IFE without even trying to calm the kid down. 😡

They should just put one of those hamster wheels in the plane for the kids. :diablo:

Good on Malaysian Airlines. Crying babies and children are a dreadful nuisance to those around, especially when parents appear to have little control.
That said, whenever I have been on A380 flights, small children seem fascinated by the spiral staircase at the back and are quite content to go up and down it almost constantly, making very little noise at all.

Good! It’s bad enough down the back when kids are crying but when you have spent thousands of pounds to fly up front it is un acceptable. The next time I fly first class I shall fly with Malaysian. I shall let you all know when I do as the skies will be black with low flying pigs!!!!
