100th Airbus to British Airways

I remember the article in Airliner World when British Airways got their first Airbus A319 to replace the Boeing 737-200. Happy days. ๐Ÿ˜€

Airbus delivers 100th Airbus aircraft to British Airways

1ST JUNE 2011

One of Europeโ€™s largest Airbus Single Aisle fleets

British Airways has taken delivery of an A320 aircraft, making it a member of a prestigious airline club that can boast 100 or more aircraft deliveries from every member of Airbusโ€™ Single Aisle aircraft Family. The airline has already taken delivery of two A318s, 33 A319s, 48 A320s and 16 A321s.

The 100th aircraft (an A320 powered by IAE engines) is also the 205th Airbus single aisle delivered to International Airlines Group, which was formed in January 2011 folllowing the merger of British Airways and Iberia.

Keith Williams, British Airways CEO said: “This milestone underlines British Airways’ commitment to continue to invest in new aircraft for the benefit of our customers. The average age of our shorthaul Airbus fleet is just over seven years old, making it one of the youngest Airbus fleets of the European network carriers.”

British Airways became an Airbus operator in 1988, when it introduced the A320 in its fleet. It added the A319 in 1999, the A321 in 2004 and the A318 in 2009.

โ€œWe are very proud that a world class airline like British Airways operates every member of our single aisle family aircraft, and even prouder to deliver to BA their 100th Airbus A320 family aircraft. We look forward to broadening and deepening our partnership with BA,โ€ said Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO.

With over 7,000 aircraft ordered, and more than 4,600 aircraft delivered to over 330 customers and operators worldwide, the A320 Family is today the worldโ€™s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family.

Not quite sure I would state they introduced the A320 into the fleet in 1988, if I remember correctly they inherited them when they purchase BCal! ๐Ÿ™‚

. Who wishes the 737-200s were back? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Got a lot of fond memories of cruising the skies between Scotland and Germany in their 732s.

I think it will be more telling once the 747-400s and 777-200s come up for retirement. I genuinely think the A350/A380 have a chance. It remains to be seen if they order more 777-300ERs or are waiting for a 777NG – like most airlines, I guess.

Perhaps the A350 will. Isn’t there a higher-powered version being produced which will compete with the B777?
Not that the latter really needs replacing with anything else.

its about time they started getting them for long haul too

Why? Their 777s and 747s are doing sterling service, they’re even bringing stored ones back on line.

It seems that apart from the A380 in limited numbers, none of Airbus’ longhaul product meet their needs.

Yeah I thought the A319 fleet was bigger than the A320 fleet too!
I miss the B737-200’s!

I always thought the A319 fleet was larger than the A320 fleet. Who wishes the 737-200s were back? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I thought they already had over 100 airbus planes. I guess it just feels like it when seeing them at LHR haha.
