CEB doubles fleet again with new USD3.8B Airbus Deal
The Philippines’ largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB) announced today that it has ordered 30 new Airbus A321neo and 7 A320 aircraft. The order at list price is valued at approximately USD3.8 billion, the largest single aircraft order ever made by a Philippine carrier.
CEB turned into firm orders its existing options for 7 Airbus A320 aircraft, and has placed a new order for thirty (30) A321neo (New Engine Option) aircraft with options for a further ten (10) A321neos. The A321neos will be a first of its type to operate in the Philippines, being a larger and longer-haul version of the familiar Airbus A320.

Aah, OLD ha ha.
The airlines must have been pushing Airbus/Boeing for the newer engines. I believe Airbus initially didn’t want to do it. It is interesting that they still over the A320OEO 😉 alongside the A320NEO. Personally, I think the A321 was the driver as a true transcontinental replacement for the B757-200. Thomas Cook followed with an order for the A321NEO, so perhaps we might see Monarch place an order, though they seem to like their A321s at the moment.

current A320… OLD engine Option.
A term being used on A.net now to differentiate between the two.
Basically, I’m saying it is obvious the NEO will be a great seller. Airlines need aircraft.
Do not think however, that it is selling purely because of the NEO improvements. I’d bet most are being sold because
A) Current A320 series is more sold out.
B) Airlines don’t need the planes till after the NEO enters service.
C) BIG deals to order and specify NEO for PR purposes.
If the NEO had not been announced I bet all these orders would have been announced anyway, just for A320.

I think the A321NEO is going to be a great seller, even more so when one of the US Airlines buy it. A Delta order for it would be fantastic.
I think that is obvious. It makes no sense to order the OEO if the delivery is due after the NEO EIS.

More great news for the A320NEO and for Cebu. They are expanding quite fast now.
