Take a look at this http://dreamliner.thomson.co.uk/

Their ‘fun facts’ shows a nice look on how the aircraft will look

I’m excited to see them fly.

Late but safer ………

Late but safer …….
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2011/03/15/354388/boeing-pegs-july-for-787-first-delivery.html

“With the latest iteration of its 787 schedule, Boeing aims to hand over the first aircraft to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in late July, the first of 20 planned for delivery in 2011, according to several sources familiar with the new plan.

While Boeing won’t confirm the late July guidance, that target remains in line with an “early summer” completion of flight test activities……”

A few weeks more to wait and see if customer launch dates are secure.

(i won’t say GET A LIFE!! oops.. just did!)

Mod Edit: Public criticism of another member removed.

The 787 is not plastic, it is a carbon composite. The same stuff Airbus makes it’s tails, rudders, noses, wing to body fairings and tail elements from. (Plus the majority of inspection hatches, panels and gear doors).
The upper fuselage of the A380 is made up of a material that is a mix of metal and fibreglass (GLARE).

Boeing use carbon composite for all of the same part, minus tail, for their aircraft models too.

I’ve also read it’s being used for the aft pressure bulkhead on some aircraft. Or is planned to be.

If you truly do not want to fly on a plane made of that stuff, take the train from now on!

It’s surprising how quickly the B787 entry-to-commercial-service is coming. ANA get theirs late this year, I think.

It’s over 3 years late.

That’s not “quick” by any standard.

Certainly a very complicated story, but people will soon forget about it once the aircraft starts flying.
Like you, Tommy, I can’t wait to fly on one.

January 2012!! I never knew it was this close to going into service!.. Don’t think i’ll be flying on one if i can avoid it, does NOT look a safe aircraft to me (i know being built by boing it probably is…just don’t fancy relying on my flying tube to be made out of the same material as tonka toys!!)) :D:D

Your ignorance is astounding.
Those must be some pretty expensive Tonka Toys you had, £30,000 a pop maybe?

Or any modern Airbus with composite primary structure. Or the B777 for that matter. :p

Thomson Airways is the European launch customer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which made its UK debut at the 2010 Farnborough Air Show. Thomson is due to get its first 787s in January 2012, several years late due to development issues with the new aircraft, which has a mainly carbon fibre construction.
