SDJ was flooded by tsunami, being apparently quite coastal. How many planes were caught on ground?
Which other Pacific airport are located on shore and liable to be flooded by tsunami?
HND is also on shore, but long passage through shallow Tokyo Bay is expected to damp tsunami waves. But Tokyo was disrupted by direct shaking, causing fire in gas refinery and other building damage.
Airports in water are often built on landfill and vulnerable to soil liquefaction. Have any runways been damaged by earthquake?
Tokyo, so far south of hypocentre, was seriously disrupted by shaking. What has happened in other directions – Sea of Japan side of Tohoku, and Hokkaido which is not far to the north?
