Excellent post tornado.
I could buy you a beer and we could swap terrace talk!
Those were the days.
On the old C pier you were about level with the B747 cockpit and on certain stands you were very close indeed.
Watched a complete TWA B747-100 turnround one day. The Captain obviously noticed and gave me a “salute” before pushing back.
Happy, happy days.

No doubt the Eva is a cool shot, but the spot is no longer accesible by car. You’ll have to park in the nearby town of Boesingheliede and walk the remaining three or four kilometers. While cars are still allowed on that road, they are no longer allowed to be parked on or beside the road.
The people living next to the road are doing their best to get the road completely closed of for anyone except themselves, emergency services and ATC personnel (and that’s a concession on this road being an access road to the Polderbaan tower).
Having spoken to one of the people living next to the road, I will refrain from stating my personnel opinion on them. I don’t feel like getting banned here. Suffice it so say that they are having a bit of difficulties with the thought of anyone coming within a mile of their premisces. That is of course a weee bit unrealistic considering they live in the second most densely populated province in the Netherlands right under the smoke of Schiphol, the Amsterdam docks and the cities of Amsterdam and Hoofddorp.
I like this shot as well (but it’s mine so I’m biased). Another spot that is no longer accesible, though it is possible to stand in the final approach a few 100 meters to the left. No touchdown shots from there though unless you got a long lense and very favourable weather conditions.

Yep the EVA AIR shot is amazing, this makes the AVP viewing facilities at Manchester seem tame!
modern manchester is increadibly boring , i’m of the age that can remember the spectator piers that all the aircraft came nose into
where you could watch stewardesses , pilots and passengers getting off the aircraft
watching flights returning from spain with drunks with the obligatory stuffed donkey under their arm staggering accross the tarmac
you could watch pilots doing their pre flights , they would often wave
and of course getting told off by dad as even though it was a great goal the ground staff were less than impressed with chasing a football after it bounced off a dan air comet !:diablo:

Classic shot from across the ‘pond’. Thanks for sharing.
Apologies for digressing but that freight train engine/s could be trundling along with over a hundred fuel/’gasoline’ ‘cars’ in tow.
I used to count the ‘cars’ when I would go walking in the US and they stretched for miles. You could get through a chapter of a book waiting at a crossing until the entire train passed.
When speaking with some responsible friends in church about the risk of some lunatic attaching a device to it and getting an accomplice to detonate it once it was in a city centre marshalling yard on en route. I was re-assured that there was a camera on the rear ‘car’ – balderdash – the usual American hype and smug attitude “lightning never strikes twice”.
What would one camera see?

You can imagine the pilot saying to the co-pilot, “how many of the passengers do you reckon we’ve got screaming on this flight?”.
