Why oh why can’t a UK charter airline like Monarch lease one until the 787’s arrive.
Because they dont need too!

How long do the MD-11’s have left with KLM? Must be one of the last European airlines to operate these?
Last predictions are for 2015, but the plans have changed repeatedly the last few years. KLM is the only airline still using them on scheduled passenger service.
World Airways still have one or two MD-11s that can be configured for passenger service. So while they are mostly used for cargo flights, they can be used for passenger flights. From time to time the US military charters them.

And pray that the pilot flying has mastered the vicious landing characteristics of this recalcitrant beast!
Why vicious?

KLM use the MD-11 on some South American routes
And South American.
I agree that taking a MD-11 trip would be a great idea. It won’t be too long before they’re retired from KLM and turned into freighters.

I guess the ultimate trip would be on a KLM MD-11 to St. Maarten!

Take a MD-11 from Amsterdam. I think they are used primarily on KLM’s African routes.
