Shuttle Discovery launch filmed from airliner

I’m lost for words. That is a heck of a rate of climb.

does NASA have to compensate commerical carriers for any disruption/inconvience that this may cause?

They may just tell them it is all for the Greater Good and they have to live with it :p

I’ve watched this video a number of times now, and seeing it does pose an interesting question…on the day of a shuttle launch, are commerical operations affected greatly?

Obviously the distance from where this particular aircraft was in relation to the space shuttle launch was fairly significant, but what actually happens when a launch is scheduled, I assume there is an exclusion/no-fly zone put in place that stops any/all aircraft from flying within a certain radius of the launch site, and does NASA have to compensate commerical carriers for any disruption/inconvience that this may cause?

Listening to the audio, it was a scheduled commercial airline flight… you can hear the pilot on the intercom telling the passengers that now they shouldn’t complain about their flight being behind schedule.

Anyone that complained about any change of course or schedule would be a ‘kill joy’ of undescribable proportions.

Those on the right side of the plane can see the space shuttle launching… those on the left side of the plane can see those on the right side watching the space shuttle launching

Something I have always wanted to do is to see a space shuttle launch for real, bet the noise is terrific!?

And its amazing to think that at just 2mins after launch, the shuttle would have been travelling at near supersonic speed!:cool:
