Here’s a bit of a change from the usual giant R/C stuff I do. A 1/72 scale B-17 built as an airframe stripped for spares, built for an online competition. The basic kit is the Airfix rebox of the Academy kit, bought for £5.00 from Ebay. I did a fair amount of scratch building inside both the fuselage and wings. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty pleased with the look of the model. I think this is the first time that the more bits I’ve cut off, the closer the model was to completion!

No, still addicted to the Fort. I’ve got a 1/48 monogram model that I’d like to build as a full cutaway, fuz, wings, nacelles and tail.

Sorry, that was me. The comment must have vanished in error whilst I was editing the post. 😮

I’m not a big fan or pre and post shading. Some of the fuselage panels are slightly different shades, but it’s subtle, and doesn’t show in the photos. I’m not a fan of big black ink lines along every panel either!
I don’t fly any more, except the very occasional glider. After the 1/6 scale B-17, there wasn’t anything left in the hobby to achieve so that really ended my interest.

Wings are weathered enough, I think he means the fuselage…
Any new RC on the go Steve?

….weathering 🙂
Isn’t it scruffy enough?

Very good, and certainly “different”. Just needs a bit of weathering 🙂

No, the flak damage and following landing distorted the fuselage of the war weary aircraft, so it was gutted 😉

‘course, in reality a hole like that in the fuselage would have been patched up and the plane sent on its way! Tough old bird those 17’s.
Still, awesome model!

…Is this a generic….
It’s loosly based on a photo in one of Roger Freeman’s books.

A very original idea … I like it!!

Great stuff Stephen, I like the wing rib/spar detail especially, and the upper wing staining. Very neat!
Is this a generic model or is it based on a real aircraft?
