No links available from any of the major news sources at the moment, and title pretty much says all thats available at the moment, but reports are coming in that a Delta Airlines aircraft en-route to Moscow has had to make an emergency landing at JFK due to a “fire on the wing”.
Not quite sure how accurate the “fire on the wing” reports are, as I have just found this:
Plane lands safely in NY after engine problem
Reuters November 21, 2010 3:55 PM NEW YORK(Reuters)
A Delta Airlines flight landed safely at New York’s JFK Airport Sunday after the pilot complained of an engine problem, authorities said.
Moscow-bound Flight 30 had just taken off from JFK around 5 p.m. when the pilot noticed a problem with the left engine on the Boeing 767, said a spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who added that ”everything’s fine.”
Firefighters and emergency crews responded and the aircraft landed safely at 5:49 p.m. , Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said.
CNN said the 193 passengers were being put on another plane for Moscow.

Might just be another non-news worthy aviation related story with the “fire on the wing” media sensationalism added for effect…suppose we’ll have to wait and see what the Daily Mail’s headline will say tomorrow!:D

Only missed out the word ‘exploded’ …
One intrepid reporter from a local TV station here reported that the Qantas A380 incident a couple of weeks ago .. the aircraft skidded down the runway with one engine completely missing
Hi Steve
In harmony with ……
Qantas is to resume some A380 services from Saturday more than three weeks after one of its Airbus superjumbos made an emergency landing after an engine exploded

Note the dramatic journalistic word “exploded” at the end of the snippet. Yuk
Just missing out on a few dramatic descriptive words and phrases I guess. It sells newspapers and keeps the ‘drama queens’ in a job.

I haven’t seen ‘wrestling the controls’ for a while 😮

No doubt the pilots were “heroes” also.

Now its’s Delta’s turn in the barrel.
As for the airborne returns. Three in a weekend? Nobody has mentioned the weekends were they had no airborne returns.

The Daily Mail reports that there was also a problem with Delta flight 125 from Atlanta to Los Angeles yesterday. Apparently, there was an engine failure and the aircraft had to return to Atlanta, which it did so safely, but, according to the FAA, it had a tail-strike upon landing.

And the Wall Street Journal reports another emergency landing by a Delta 757 in Dublin at the weekend, following more engine problems.
Is everybody jumping on the band wagon, like with the two Qantas problems, or should we have a genuine concern for safety if we are flying with Delta?
