That’s the question I’m asking!

In the BBC link it says:

Belfast City Airport has wanted to build a runway extension for some time, which would have allowed Ryanair to fly to destinations further afield.

The length of the runway currently at the airport limits the type of aircraft that can land there.

So I presume Ryanair are already operating from Belfast city with the B737, so the runway length is not a problem at the moment – unless of course, the 737s are operating with restricted take-off weights which reduce their range, I don’t know?

No offence, but if as you say Ryanair have only one type of aircraft, which other aircraft are they going to operate??

What type does/did Ryanair operate out of Belfast city? I thought that a main operational policy of of a low-cost airline was that it only operated one type – in Ryanair’s case, B737-800s?

I am assuming that the authority presiding over this planning matter is part of a democratically elected local authority which represents the wishes of the majority living there. Should the local population have a change of heart then they can change their local authority at the ballot box. Thats how it goes MoL. That being so then MoL is free to turn his back on the still significant business potential in Belfast, and NI as a whole, and walk away. There will doubtless be other carriers happy to capitalise on that potential and move in.
