I was going to post a while ago about the poor quality of Airfix kits and the decals in particular.
But before ranting I decided to got to the web site and contact them. Today I have recieved an email from them and my new decals are on there way to me as we speak. Excellent customer care in my opinion from a company that seems to be improving all the time.
All I want now is a factory tour and the new big Mossie for my trouble :):)

Pieces: 617
With that number of pieces it would be fitting to model Guy Gibsons Mossie.

Having e-mailed on Sunday to my local Airfix importer, today I indeed received a set of replacement decals, directly mailed from Airfix!
Sadly, they are still as non-optimal than my first ones, but at least it was worth the try. On the plus side, I have to agree the Customer Care service at Airfix works really fast (even faster than Revell over here).

I can’t wait for the 1/24 scale mosquito, that is going to be 1 huge model 😀
There is a 2 page ad for it in the key publishing Mosquito special, 4 versions, it looks very nice indeed.
I wouldn’t dare even try and make something that large/expensive with my model building skills ! Look at the size and spec:

I can always remember as a kid writing to Airfix about missing or broken parts (some of which I lost or broke myself 🙂 ) and they always sent me the parts without charge.
Airfix are bringing out new mould kits this year including a Dambuster Lanc with Dam.

Airfix always had a good customer care department. I wrote to them several times in the 60’s asking for missing or damaged parts, and they always delivered, no quibble.

Just remembered this thread … Currently I’m building Airfix’ 1/48 Spitfire but the decals really pi** me off. I’ve never seen a decal sheet showing screen-printing markings that huge! 😡
Sould I try my luck and ask for a new sheet? (No wonder Model Alliance print the kit’s markings on their on decal sheets, too!!)

Hi Starfire. The decals arrived today, one day after the I recieved the email. They look a lot better. No out of line roundels, no white out lines and no faded/mottled patches. I just hope the adhesive is better.

Let’s hope your replacement decals will be better than the ones you complained about … :diablo: However, I recently built the 1/48th Canberra PR.9 and found the decals – apart from being a bit on the thick side – quite good.
