Dubai cargo plane crash.

CNN now reporting a cargo plane has crashed near the airport onto a highway and there are fatalities.:(

Plane is reported as being UPS B.747 N571UP.

It seems that the DFDR has been found in a reasonable condition.

Second black box of crashed UPS cargo plane found

The second black box of the UPS cargo plane that crashed in Dubai on Friday has been found by the search teams from the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE.

The Boeing 747-400’s other black box was found earlier amidst the wreckage of the plane, which crashed on September 3 in Dubai.

No reports of casualties on the ground is indeed the only consolation in the circumstances.

The pilot radioed air traffic control after departing from Dubai International Airport, reporting smoke and fire in the cockpit, according to Saif al Suwaidi, director general of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

“He was asked to return but he missed the approach and then he disappeared from the radar and then we found that he had crashed between Al Ain Road and the Emirates Road,” he said. “So far there’s no casualties on the ground that we know of.”

Updated newspaper article:

The US company also has confirmed the crash on its website, saying that the plane is a 747-400F model with two crew members aboard, headed from Dubai to Cologne, Germany. It crashed on takeoff; the company did not confirm any casualties.
