Why use scale drawings?

There are some excellent factroy blueprint sets and not least for the Fw 190 including the later long nosed versions. They can be found here and come from various partners in the industry including Claus Colling at Flug Werk GmbH (the 1:1 aluminium replica) in Germany.

Hi XH668,

if you really are serious then there are a few things to consider.

is it a static model ie not going to fly or is it a flying model.

If it is going to be the later then you need to get in contact with the LMA as they are the body that approves the aircraft on behalf of the CAA.

there are many procedures to follow and quite a few stages to go through before you even get close to completion.

Not trying to put you off at all but someone has to tell you the boring stuff.

have a look on the LMA website and that should tell you all you need to know about the boring stuff.

What kind of size were you thinking off and why the mk1.

im looking at building a 1/4 scale tsr2 for my Degree next year. when it comes to large scale RC models, the place to start is with the large model designers, such as Nick Ziroli he has a couple of really nice models, mustang (not a mark one im afraid) bearcat, thunderbolt, warhawk etc all gorgous aircraft and well designed models.

http://www.ziroliplans.com/cat_frameset.html

or alternatively you can buy a kit, cut from some of the more prominent designers plansfrom from belair kits (uk) they also have the ability to laser cut out a kit from a CAD design.

www.belairkits.com

the reason i would reccomend these, apart from most of the smaller ones being under 20kg eliminating the need for the LMA :diablo: they are tried and tested designs, they dont cost multiple thousands of pounds to build, and are fairly simple in the construction. the problem is price, twice the size, four times the cost to build. definitely go with a ziroli or palmer design as your first

Join one of the online RC forums – there’s a wealth of information out there that can be had, practically for nothing.

Get yourself a good scale 3-view – there must be magazines kicking about with that kind of information in their back issues. Or, do as some of the earlier warbird replica enthusiasts did, and scale up from a plastic kit. You might find that a 1/48th scale model will give you something of an idea where everything should go on your big one.

That was a bit mean of me, to be honest.

What’s on display is a WAR Fw-190, a half-scale homebuilt replica warbird. Half-scale is a rather loose application of the term, since certain areas are over-sized to allow for safety, comfort etc.

The wingspan of the beast is 20ft, with a length of 17ft. Power is a 100hp Continental O-200 engine.

However, a true half-scale ‘190 wouldn’t be much smaller! Also, large scale models require certain dispensation from, I believe, the CAA in order to be allowed to fly.
