I really hope the new Edinburgh based carrier gets the funding they need for this to go ahead.
It will be great for me and other scottish spotters. With Fly Globespan going bust, it would be a real treat to see a new scottish airline around.
Let me know your thoughts.:)

Yes, I don’t see why a government should be running an airline, it may well be a successful arm but in todays scenario it does not make sense. It used to, when it was a thing about pride and all but if it goes wary then its the tax payer who ultimately pays up to keep it afloat. More than that you run a business by the markets, and not by national symbolism. That era is gone.
Take Air India for example, bleeding like a man who has been shot in the head, but yet flying by public bail-out money because its the ‘national flag carrier’. Whatever that means in todays world.

Fair enough, the selection of routes on offer with British Airways is very limited, but the world is your oyster when you reach London…..
…..or Amsterdam, or Frankfurt.
Even, arguably, Manchester.
Having all but completely abandoned direct flights from UK regional airports, BA simply can’t take the connecting traffic from those same airports for granted any more.
Live by market forces, die by market forces.

I believe that in many parts of the world it is indeed obsolete Kabir, certainly here in UK that is definitely the case.We have a large airline that serves London and several other airlines serving elsewhere, so, no airline could really use the tag “National” the nearest airline to a national airline in UK would easily be FlyBe.

I agree with flybe being closest. 🙂

I should have thought that one of the prerequisites of a “National” airline is that its ownership should be national.

Shouldn’t the concept of ‘national airline’ be obsolete and done with by now?

Looks like everybody’s favourite – British Airways – will continue to be the national carrier for the UK, including Scotland.
Emm… really, the airline that has a whopping 3 routes from Scotland, all terminating in the same city!! If that is Scotland’s national airline, what is FlyBe,BMI, BMI Baby??? London Airways are very definitely NOT Scotland’s national airline:mad:

An article that is 7 months old, no mention of the ‘airline’ since and a website with not very much on it.
