Was quite surprised to see this. I would never have thought anyone would go through the trouble of partly modernise a 707.

I suspect the cost of maintenance on the ADI/HSI are the real reason. They are swapped out quite often – good in their day, but not as good as a CRT/LCD.

I’d leave a B707 just as it is, much as I’d no more mess with, for example, a 1972 Jensen Interceptor.

Just because something is old, it doesn’t mean you throw it away.

John travolta’s one is gorgeous too 🙂

Perhaps like the owner of buffalo airways, the owner of this 707 has a soft spot for old jets?

Airborne Express had a “poor man’s EFIS” in their DC-8’s 20 some years ago. I’ve got a picture somewhere but probably won’t be able to find it to scan it in. This mod may have been done some time ago. It does seem rather ridiculous to modify a fuel guzzler like this when there are so many more efficient glass cockpit airplanes in the desert.

Is that an airworthy aircraft? looks to be on an airfield, not just a cockpit section?
N88ZL is vey much airworthy in a VIP configuration.

There was a kit by Valsan for the 727. 2 crew glass cockpit, quiet engines etc. No more flight engineer (which is a debatable point).
