I spotted this follow-up to the awesome Heroes of the Pacific yesterday on the XBox 360 and have just bought it.
It is a BEAUTIFUL arcade flight-sim – the graphics for the Hurricanes are amazing, with all the details for the stringered fuselage picked out. The Me109s, Ju88s and so on just look fantastic. Explosions and damage modelling all look excellent.
And that’s just the first mission…!

It’s taken me an hour or so, but I’m onto the Battle of Britain missions now.
The combats are just like the game’s predecessor – hectic! There are so many bandits in the sky, that you don’t know who to go for next!
What I do like is the “ace kill” idea – basically, when a gauge around your gunsight reticule turns red, pressing a button will allow you to get into “the zone” and concentrate a burst of fire into your enemy – with the result being a significant structural hit (hit a ‘109 in the right place and it will fall apart), or hitting the pilot for a fatal kill. You can also take out rear gunners on bombers to make the kill easier, since the defensive fire is very accurate!
These “ace kills” aren’t easy to get unless your target happens to be stooging along in straight and level flight, though!
