Here are the latest (and first) shots of my DeAgeostini Spitfire. It still has a fair bit of work to be done as I am sure you all can see but it’s getting there slowly.
I decided to get rid of the plastic covering film after numerous unsuccessful attempts and just paint it instead before covering the paintwork with clear varnish to protect it from the exhaust fumes and the weather.
What do you all think?????????
Mark 😀 😀 😀

Update
Sounds like fun 😀 😀 😀
I’ve just put another coat of varnish on the fuselage. I’ve finished painting the fuselage and flying surfaces and prepared most of the port side wing for covering (which I shall be doing tonight……..I can’t wait).
As for the starboard wing……..it’s still just a basic frame 🙁 🙁 🙁 Just the thought of it is daunting to say the least 🙁 🙁 🙁
I’m going to see if I can get some more pictures taken at some point to show you guy’s how it’s coming along…….perhaps I’ll do that tomorrow.

I’ll look into it 😀 😀 😀 So, how’s the DC3 coming along then????? I’m going to work on my Spitfire when I get home…….see if I can get the wings sorted out by January 3rd (When I get back)…..If I do then I’ll post some pics 😀 😀 😀
Haven’t managed much, my Workshop becomes Santa’s grotto in the lead up to Christmas (Storing the Kids’ presents) and I had a lot on at work, but managed an hour over the weekend, tidied up the cockpit window frames, painted the inside and starting Glazing using some cut up clear plastic packaging. Once I have done that I will put the Pilots in the office, glue on the nose section former (which has just reminded me needs painting in the visible side!) and then doing dowels etc to mount it squarely to the fuse.
After that is about 6 weeks of filling and sanding to make the joint vanish…..:(

Tony Nijhus has done plans for all of those, but I would look at the ARTF GWS DC3, it has a 5′ span and costs £80! By all accounts it flies very well

Once I have finished my spitfire I am going to attempt all of these
- Mosquito
- DC3/C-47 (possibly with electric motors)
- Lancaster (Definately with electric motors)

Wow! Your spitfire looks great!
I’m still building my Corsair but I don’t have much time to do it:( unfortunatly
Thanks 🙂
I know what you mean about the lack of time………my spitfire is still no further advanced since I took these photos although I’m planning to continue working on the wings tonight. I have to cover the ribs with balsa wood and then the plastic covering and then she’s pretty much complete……..exept for that port elevator.
I can’t wait until it’s finished. It’s starting to stress me out having her sitting there doing nothing. I want to see her in action 😀 😀 😀

RCME did 2 sizes, 36″ an 48″ span, I think. The larger is on my ‘to build’ list…:D
It’s probably the smaller one that I have.

I would love to build a mosquito. Perhaps it’ll be my next project 😀 😀 😀 Mark 😀

How big?? I’m fairly certain I have a mini-Mossie plan lurking around the house, with the original mag article that describes the building of it.

The colour scheme is the one that was supplied with the aircraft although, instead of using the plastic covering film I used the little tins of Humbrol model paint (quite surprisingly I have only used half a tin of each on the fuselage).
I did have some pics of the spitfire that it is based on but I think I deleted them. I’ll have a look for some Egypt camo ones for you as well 🙂

I have bought 58 out of the 60……..the last 2 issues mysteriously dissappeared from my newsagents. I’m just going to get the parts I need from the model shop in Hereford anyway so I’m not too worried about it.
It’s just finding the time to do it as is the trouble 😀 😀 😀
I’ll get some Fuel Proofer at the same time 😀 😀 😀
By: wessex boy - 14th November 2006 at 16:37
I’m Amazed how good it looks, how many weekly magazines have you bought so far?
I would give it all a good dose of Fuel proofer before and after covering
By: Spitfire Pilot - 6th November 2006 at 12:33
Yeah……I know………Mind you, it probably won’t make it that far anyway……….I’ll crash her before then 😀 😀 😀 Mark 😀
I love black humour 😀 😀 😀

Looks good, Mark, although I’m a little worried about just simply painting/varnishing the airframe to protect it. No doubt you can (and I’m sure I’ve read of other methods which have worked for others), but it’d be a damn shame if it didn’t work!
