787 & composites lecture video

Last week I was flipping through the TV channels and among those we get is one from the the University of Washington.
They presented a video of a lecture given by a Boeing engineer (and unversity faculty member) on the 787 program and the future of composites.

It predates the first flight so it’s not a source of news, but its interesting to see how much work and thought (and “what ifs”) goes into developing a new jetliner.

Even if you’re not a Boeing fan, I think you’ll find it interesting.

The first guy made a mistake saying that in older aircraft electricity was generated by heat exchangers in the engines and the second guy was implying that when they recycle the aircraft at the end of their service life, they will make golf clubs and fishing poles out of them. Otherwise very interesting.

I see that it is 1h25 long. I’m not sure if it will fit into my outdated computer’s memory. I only have 1 gig. And the bandwidth is so slow here that I will have to let it load up overnight and watch it in the morning. Thanks anyway, Mr Boyle.
