BA and Iberia closer to merger

BA and Iberia agree merger deal

BA has been considering a merger with Iberia for some time

British Airways and the Spanish airline Iberia say they have reached a preliminary agreement for a merger that should be formalised early next year.

The two airlines have been discussing the deal at separate board meetings.

Under its terms, Iberia would take a 45% stake and BA, which last week reported a six-month pre-tax loss of £292m, a 55% stake in the company.

Iberia said it would be able to pull out of the deal if BA did not resolve its pensions deficit problems.

What is the Air France-KLM merger? Is that 50/50, or is it similar to this?

Any alliance is really bad too. But Star (JKK in Spain about to withdraw only to BCN) and Skyteam (with Air Europa also closing down most domestic routes) are not playing any role in our market.

Only Ryanair is the choice in many domestic airports. Do I like it?. No, not at all. But that´s what it is. I would love to have all three alliances, and a couple of low costs, to create real competence. But no….only IB with any of its faces.

IB BA NO WAY

So what about “king” lufthsana sucking up every star alliance carrier in Europe, or AF-KL. Nothing wrong with it, and infact i see it as a positive for every passanger of IB-BA.

Also FR will sure do something, he has already chucked his toys out of his pram, so it wont be long before FR is announcing bases and more routes out of Spain.

I do not share O Leary words, but I am indeed worried. Every time Iberia grows bigger and bigger, makes Spaniards feel very concerned. In a country with the 80% of the domestic and South American market absolutely dominated by Iberia, this is not a good news at all for the consumers.

No, I don´t like it all. I do hope somebody does anything to stop this. 😡 We have to tolerate Iberia dirty tactics over here, but it seems that the monster grows in Europe. IB BA NO WAY

Poor BA.
