Airport ID passes

Recently my cousin applied for a job at Luton Airport, but he was unsucessful. Reasons being more experienced people applied, and they had the relevant ID passes to be able to work at an airport.

This got me by surprise a bit. Is it possible for people who don’t work at an airport to still hold an airport ID pass? Bear in mind he applied for a ramp position, so they would have to hold an airside pass

Sounds like he was just unlucky and they picked someone better qualified for the role.

Hope he finds something soon.

I was actually agreeing with your post where you mentioned the applicants might have been from another department 🙂

remember that in the UK employment law states that any position advertised internally must also be advertised to none-employees.

Remember I am not English, and as such was unaware of that law. 😉

Regardless, they could have hired someone from another company at the airport. Someone that would thus have a valid and current ID card. This I already mentioned in my original post.

Might also have been applicants that already work at the airport, but at a different department or company.

unfortunately that doesn’t mean that none-employees are given the same treatment…

Just sounds like a polite excuse to me.

He should still have his airport clearance, for example I was made redundant from my airport job in August, I got a new one in October and still had my clearance, didnt have to provide references or details of employment etc for the last 10 years the second time around. When I was made redundant I had to give in my pass and was given a new one when I got my new job.

He’s held an airport pass in the last three years though, will he not be cleared already?

If they dont work at the airport they cant hold the ID pass, however once cleared to hold one, that clearance last a certain amount of time, about 10 years I think. Its easier for them to hire people who have already been cleared than having to go through the process of clearing new people .
