A trip to London town…

So I’ve decided to celebrate my last year of being a ‘thirty-something’ by taking myself down to London on December 19th to see one of my favourite grungey rock bands Ned’s Atomic Dustbin at the Shepherds Bush Empire. Question is though, which airport is nearest and has the best surface connections ?

Don’t think I want to fork out extra for LCY, so which is the best alternative… Luton, Stansted, Heathrow or Gatwick and which airline from Glasgow… BA, BMI, Easyjet ???

I seek your opinions folks. 😎

Obviously the cheapest fare is going to finalise the choice 😀
BTW you can get to SB from LGW on surface trains…you dont have to use the tube.
Hope you have a great gig Ren…the same night I am going to see Thea Gilmore dahn on the sarf coast

Thea Gilmore singing ‘Crazy Love’ acoustic, but she will also do an electric set as well.

BA or bmi to Heathrow

Heathrow Express to Paddington

Hammersmith & City Line to Shepherd’s Bush Market

Would be considerably cheaper (and probably not a lot longer, if at all) to take the picadilly line to hammersmith and then the Hammersmith&City to Shepards bush.

LTN is roughly 30 minutes on the train from Kings Cross, and you can take the H&C line to Shepards bush from there. But it probably would be longer than LHR. Similar situation with LGW, except probably 45 minutes to kings Cross.

Your choice. LHR would be easier, LTN probably has the cheaper air-fare.

You should still consider it as a possible option though as you can easily get the Docklands Light Railway from LCY to Bank station, change onto the Circle Line and then go straight to Shepherd’s Bush station from there. And to make things even easier, you’d only need the one train ticket (a Travelcard) to get you there!

Ned’s Atomic Dustbin

Who…?

Shepherds Bush Empire

I’ve been to SBE many times and must say its a fantastic venue, probably my favourite venue in London for music gigs!:)

Unless you have a frequent flyer card on either BA or bmi there isn’t too much difference between the two of them. LCY is a long way from Shepherd’s Bush so isn’t really much of an option. STN, LTN and LGW would take a lot longer so there would have to be a considerably lower cost than the LHR flights to be worthwhile.
