Passengers hit in the face with hot hydraulics fluid

Four passengers on a Brussels Airlines flight were injured after being hit on their faces and arms with hot hydraulics fluid.
There were 74 passengers onboard flight SN-2588 from Berlin Tegal, Germany, to Brussels, Belgium, when the incident occurred, the Aviation Herald reports.

The plane had landed safely and was taxiing to the terminal when the hydraulics fluid began leaking from the cabin interior, near the wing area.

The passengers received minor injuries, including burns, and were taken to hospital.

The leakage has not been located as parts of the cabin interior needs to be removed to determine the cause.

The airline is investigating the incident.

Is SKYDROL the same or similar to OM-15-(H-515)?

I have smelt something like OM-15 in airline cabins just before take-off

No, Skydrol is a synthetic oil and OM15 is a mineral oil.
Skydrol can’t handle cold temperatures as well as OM15, but it doesn’t burn. In a fire that is.

Skydrol should not normally be that hot (as in temperature) but it’s chemical build-up makes it burn. Those of us working on a hydraulic system that have taken a quick pee without washing there hands thoroughly beforehand can vouch for that:eek:

If I can’t wash my hands I get one of the other lads to help out:D

OK, I’m first with the Ryanair dig for this thread.
Do you think Ryanair would have charged the passengers for the hydraulic fluid, with a £5.00 admin fee on their credit cards?

Although i did laugh at the topic name. 😀

You wouldn’t if it had happened to you!
Skydrol in the eyes is very, very painful, take it from one who has suffered it!
