Never been on a forum before so forgive basic errors. We are looking for advice as to best way to remove the front fan of a Rolls Royce RB-211 engine. Before anyone panics this is a static engine that will not fly again. We are thinking about making a special tool for this job.The engine is on a transportation jig.Any tech pubs on CD’s or anything would be greatly appreciated. The key for us is to do the job right and not to damage a great exhibit.
Thanks for help in advance

AH!!!
Once you have the spinner and thrust ring off the blades will be free to be pulled out. The mid span snubber will cause you problems. The trick is to pull each blade towards you a bit at a time. Start at the top, this will be where the blades are at the most floppy (Technical term). Pull the top one towards you as far as it will go. Rotate the fan one blade and do the same to the next blade. Keep rotating and pulling again and again and…. There will come a point when you will be able to pull one or two blades out compleatly. Once you have the first two out the rest will come out with no bother.
BE CAREFULL when you reach the point of first removal as all the other blades are very close to coming out too!!!

Yes I’d like to know that too. I’ve looked at the 757 maintenance manual. The blade removal is straight forward but the hub is not covered in it. Hub removal is more an engine shop job and I THINK requires special tools.

Do you want the hub out as well? The blades are the easy bit the hub is a bit more involved.
