Airframe history – EI-DCL Ryanair Dreamliner?

Does anyone know why Ryanair 738 EI-DCL is painted in the Boeing Dreamliner livery?

Did it have a prior life as a prototype or test plane or did MOL cut a deal with Boeing to haul their logo around Europe for them?

Just curious, as I was on it the other day and it would be interesting to know if it was the prototype – probably the only one I’ve flown on and possibly the only prototype in commercial service??

Thanks

Seb

Thanks for the answers guys – nothing special about it at all then – just a bit of extra publicity for Boeing I guess.

I don’t know then, but I thought I’d read somewhere that they were bringing this in as a new livery. If this is the case then it is horrifically dull!

Just temp to save time and money: http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=758

At least something in this program is being well thought out 😉

I thought that was a cheaper scheme to save money.

Will just have to see what they roll the 747-8F out in….

I vaguely remember something about it, Boeing did it for a few airlines means they got the aircraft painted for free.

As Andy said above, they had it painted special c/s for their 60th a/c.. There are quite a lot of a/c flying around in Boeing house c/s..CAL 744,Alaska 738 i shot a Lion Air 739 in Jakarta in the scheme also.. Maybe they get a discount from Boeing for free advertising??:D

And in the past there where also a Korean Airlines 739 (seen at Farnborough) and a Air Berlin 73G. Those two have been painted into regular livery though.

I thought i read somewhere that it was painted in “Dreamliner” colours because it was Ryanair’s x’th 738 delivered or something like that ??. But on further research it was Ryanair’s 60th 738…. nothing special about the 60th is there !.

I remember seeing an Orion Airways 737-200 (G-BHVI) which was Boeing’s 737th 737, no special paint job there though !

Andy

As I understand it, these will be the new colours…

Technically it’s not the Dreamliner livery, just the Boeing house colours. Although these are changing again.
