Is the overall fleet efficiency of using a 318 high enough that it justifies not to go for a large Embraer instead? Doesn’t Lufthansa plan to go for the 190/195 Embraers instead of the 318/19 Airbuses?

I would until recently have agreed with you, in fact I think I said so on this very forum, but I have to eat my words as it is selling like hotcakes at the moment, there are no seats available for weeks after the start.

That’s because there are hardly any seats on those planes :diablo:

I would have thought the A318 was a little small to fly across the Atlantic, but I suppose its short-runway capabilities make it the only option as far as LCY is concerned.
As for recognising individual A318’s, I must say that I have always regarded the A318-A321 series as little more than buses with wings, and would never be able to notice individual aircraft, so numerous are they.

Also I notice the outbound service stops at SNN to clear US customs. Is this to do with aircraft range? It’s not a bad idea considering how awful immigration is at JFK!

It’s also so it can pick up the additional fuel required for the outbound leg, seeing as it can’t get out of LCY on a full tank.

Just looked at BA’s website and seen that there are two daily services… Isn’t it cutting it a bit fine considering there’s no backup aircraft? At £4,500 for the return ticket I’d be a bit miffed if I got a serious technical delay!

more A318’s need to be ordered?

Well yes, but as they haven’t been ordered I assume these ideas are still at the evaluation stage.

It will be doing the shuttle within two years, mark my words!!!

The longer term will depend on whether they like it enough to keep coming back to City or prefer to go back to a Boeing out of T5.

Increased frequency and two new City longhaul routes are already being looked at.

It will be doing the shuttle within two years, mark my words!!! The one that does’nt end up in the water at docklands, that is.

I’d imagine that the two A318s will spend their weekends at either Heathrow or Gatwick.

I’ve never actually been to LCY but I think I should make the effort to get there when these start operating!

From the outside yes!

Poor thing, hardly looks big enough to fly the Atlantic, it’s like sending a child up a chimney!

not very BA politically correct to have D- reg
sorry bad typing first time

It’s got nothing to do with “political correctness”, whatever you think that means.

It’s a test registration applied by the manufacturer so that the aircraft can be air-tested before delivery to the customer.

All commercial aircraft manufacturers do this.

As mentioned elsewhere, I think she looks superb and something about the BA scheme seems to accentuate the larger vertical stabiliser. I’ve never actually been to LCY but I think I should make the effort to get there when these start operating!

not ver BA pc

What does that mean?
