It’s official … US airlines have the worst food of any carrier in the entire world.
American Airlines… United Airlines and U.S. Airways were voted the worst in a survey by SeatGuru.com.
However… airlines such as Singapore and Air France were voted as having the best in-flight meals.
Singapore Airlines… which flies its A380 out of Sydney each day was voted the best food and most comfortable.
The only stand-out US carrier was Continental… which was voted as having good in-flight fare and comfortable seats.
United… American and US Airways also were cited for having the least comfortable economy-class seats and the rudest flight attendants.

In my experience the best inflight food (usually snacks as many of my recent flights have been short hops) has been on the Belgian carriers Sabena and VLM (VLM did a very nice sandwich!) and also some nice sandwiches on British Airways.
The worst inflight food was on SN Brussels, BMI and Air New Zealand.
Air New Zealand also have the most obnoxious crews I have ever come across on any airline. I’m surprised none of them were ever punched in the face they were so bad.

Also (sorry, forgot to mention this in my previous post!), but I also flew with CO from EWR to SFO whilst on the same trip as above, and in terms of the meal, we got a cheeseburger, salad and some chocolate covered biscuits…hardly a ‘nutritious’ meal for a 6hr flight?!
I think the only reason CO stand out against all the rest of the US carriers is due to the fact that they do not charge people for food onboard, whereas most other carriers do…tea, coffee, soft drinks and water are also free too, but they do charge $5 for alcohol.

Thats interesting, I flew with CO to EWR from LHR back in March, and got upgraded to BusinessFirst, opted for the steak as a meal and it was tough as old boots that I couldn’t eat it?!
I’ll have to second you there…i’ve never found any outstanding meals in business class on any US carrier

Two of the best steaks I have had anywhere have been in their business section (Yum,Yum:D)

I can back up what they say about Continental. Two of the best steaks I have had anywhere have been in their business section (Yum,Yum:D) Their wines are not bad either.

I would go along with this… the worst airline meal I’ve ever had was on US734, PHI-MAN last November. I think it was meant to be some kind of risotto but it was just lumpy white goo… unpleasant.
Ian
You mean the white goo was mashed potato mixed with skim milk?
Ohh!

Even the in-flight meals served aboard any Vietnam Airlines flight is better than that, e.g. a selection of either an Asian or Western style meal of your choice (I chose the former), and the flight attendants were polite and bilingual (in Vietnamese and English).
I flew on this airline with my family on the way to and from our ancestral homeland.
