Being a FS2004 user, I am currently looking into purchasing in the near future a AI package for the sim and was wondering which one would be the best one for me to have. There seem to be so many different ones available – its all so confusing.
I only fly vintage and GA types (sorry no airliners) and therefore would like something that caters for the smaller airfields rather than the larger ones. I believe that Traffic 2005 enables the user to create AI aeroplanes out of ones in our virtual hangars (this would be superb), but are there other small aeroplanes in its inventory? or does another package offer better GA traffic?
Sorry for being a pain, but thought would ask here before buying something.
Best wishes,
Martin

Well its almost been two weeks now and I think I’ve got the hang of the program. Have sort of re-arranged things so to speak and have populated the skies with types that I’m more accustomed to. Now, I find it interesting to arrive somewhere and see what’s visiting rather than seeing the usual Cessnas and false airliners.

Well it had to happen……Santa somehow provided me with a copy of Traffic 2005. I did try the Project AI as suggested and managed to get this to work, but I’m finding it a lot easier with the commercial package. Didnt at first and just got the modern airliners, but have sussed it now (took ages) and now have a sky populated with the likes of Broussard, Twin Pioneer, Auster, Chipmunk, Harvard and Prentice. Frame rates dont seem to suffer too much (only if have some well built sim aeroplane), but on the whole are very pleased.
Best wishes,
Martin

Adam,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will do as you suggest and try PAI and let you know how I get on.

but I just need to sit down and have a go….perhaps on Boxing Day when I’m fed up with turkey and booze!

lol
the problem with these new payware traffic add ons is that they include other ‘bits’ like an AI traffic viewer, a paint assistant, and a ai spotter vehicle, which i am sure will have an impact on frames per second and performance. this will be useless if you just want the program to be used as a no fuss ai traffic provider.
PAI isn’t much of a hassle. just download Lee Swordy’s Ttools, and then download the PAI installer, donwload some airlines, or the GA and vintage traffic in your case, and let the automatic installer do the rest for you.
with PAI you have the choice of which airlines to install and what GA and vintage AI u want to install. with a payware package, i don’t think you have that choice – you’ll end up with the airline traffic too. with PAI you can pick and mix – just don’t download what u don’t want.
the PAI system also allows you to add loads of ai traffic and new ai models and repaints manually from the massive freeware market available
i hope that helps.
in the end, i would suggest trying PAI first – it is free after all – and if you don’t like it, delete it and go for one of the payware packages. much better than finding you don’t like something that you’ve paid for, before having seen something that’s free.

I havent much patience and so being lazy just want something that does the job. I’ve looked at Lee Swordy’s wonderful programs and havent a clue on what to do, but I just need to sit down and have a go….perhaps on Boxing Day when I’m fed up with turkey and booze!

Why pay for traffic when you can have it free. freeware traffic from Project AI is just as good, if not better as something like Traffic 2005 or Ultimate Traffic.
it provides good GA traffic and vintage traffic too. 🙂
