Granny pays $300K to fly on first Virgin Galactic flight

Glenys Ambe… a 56-year-old Brisbane woman who stayed home from school so that she could watch Neil Armstrong walk on the moon… is the latest of 15 Australians… and the first Aussie woman… to book a seat on the Virgin Galactic spaceship… scheduled for its initial commercial launch late in 2011… or 2012.

Ms Ambe, who bought the ticket to celebrate her 60th birthday in 2012… expects her 4 minute ride in space to be “the experience of a lifetime” for her.

Each flight will carry be crewed by 2 pilots, and will carry just six passengers… as it flies over 100 kilometres above Earth.

almost as expensive as a Loganair flight from Campbeltown airport

Personally I’d rather do the Loganair flight though.

Wow $300,000? I wonder if she’ll be willing to help me pay for the rest of my flying training.

Mind you though, if you’ve got the money to go into space, why not, afterall, its not something everyone gets to do.
