Boredom

I’m bored.

…with FS9 that is.

i think of somewhere to fly (usually somewhere with great scenery in real life (Canada, New Zealand, Caribbean etc)), and then I find/think of an airline that flies around there.

I’ll then have a look at a couple of their routes, then try and find flight sim scenery for the airports that i’ll fly to, and then find what aircraft fly the routes, and then i’ll download them.

having done that, i try and fill the sky that i’ll be flying in with AI, meaning in most cases I either have to write some (inaccurate) AI flight plans, and get textures for the aircraft etc, or i download the flight plans and textures all ready done for you, and then install them manually.

phew. after that, taking usually a whole day, im ready to fly the route.

i get airbourne, realise that the model for the aircraft is close to sh*t because it doesn’t work properly (or that my flying skills are sh*t) and realise that the downloaded airport scenery isn’t particularly to my tastes, and by now I’m, well, bored. so i usually don’t fly the rest of the flight.

call me silly, but thats the process i go through.

So…

Hav u flown flights that you thought were really good, and so can recommend it to me, and to anyone else on the forum for that matter.

(im looking preferably for short haul flights, with really good scenery (maybe interesting approaches etc), really good downloadable aircraft models, and a flight not needing much prep i.e. adding AI, improving airports beforehand. i love ‘unusual’/’uncommon’ flights like flights using small prop aircraft flying aorund communities in canada, or island hopping in the carribean with winair, for example)

anything to get me interested again.

Something different?

I agree that sounds dead boring. I have mothballed FS9 for now although no doubt will excited again when and if FS2006 appears. Why not try a different sim? Earlier this year I got in to gliders and things with Micro Flight. It has got many interesting features including airflow physics over terrain etc which I am sure MS could learn something from.

Latterley I am toying with the all new Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, which has a steep learming curve combatwise but which is great fun just flying around and using ATC.

Frame rates are great in both sims on my lowly beast, which actually struggles with FS9 and LOMAC to the point of being a pain.

One of these days I may get in to X-Plane as well as for me there is no substitute for good sim physics.

I always get bored of FS, so what I do is go on a UK tour. Example;

EMA-HUY
HUY-MAN
MAN-LBA
LBA-LHR
LHR-LGW
LGW-MME
MME-EMA

Try using a nice little bizjet for added fun. 😉

I will certainly second Vatsim, I havent done an “offline” flight for many years now. Now that Squawkbox 3 is available, and also now that the Vatsim guys have reorganised the pilot training sections on www.vatsim.net there really is no excuse not to at least try Vatsim.

It isnt for everybody, but I would strongly recomend that everybody tries it once or twice, just to see what your missing!

or why not try flying online with VATSIM, and try a route from Man – LHR in a Dash8, can get very interesting 🙂

ive never flown online before but im interested, Is it easy to set up and join in etc?

Or better still, set up some sort of inflight emergency. Aim to fly London to Palma for example (1 hour 45 minutes at most) and set one of your engines to fail within, say 30 minutes, and then divert to a suitable airport.

Have you ever routed over the Grand Canyon at low altitude? thats good but see if theres any downloadable scenery

I’ve just finished a US Airways 757 flight from Fort Lauderdale to Havana with a flight time of 43 minutes 😀

But if you want an exciting, busy and quick route to fly, just do the really simple Heathrow to Manchester.

yep i go throught the same process

1) i have scenery for Cuba that i love so at the moment i fly to and from there
2) The best landings i ever do are in the biggies (B777 or 747 – A330 or A340) so i find routes to suit the planes
3) I find the ATC to rigid. Theres no variety in the way they say things.

I get sooo bored aswell.

The one thing that truly winds me up is when ATC put you on course, the HDG is always either a ‘0’ or a ‘5’. i.e. HDG – 100, 105, 110, 115, 120…no hdg 132…
