Air Canada Flight 34, a Boeing 777-200LR flying from Sydney to Vancouver with 256 passengers and 17 crew onboard, diverted to Honolulu after the aircraft encountered moderate to severe turbulence over the Pacific Ocean, which resulted in injuries to 15 passengers and crew members.
During the 2 hours on the ground in Hawaii, injured crew and passengers received medical treatment at the airport.
Two passengers and two crew members were hospitalised.
The Boeing 777 was also examined by ground engineers, for possible structural damage, as a result of the forces it endured during the encounter with the turbulence, and was signed off as airworthy prior to resuming the flight back to Vancouver.
The flight’s arrival in Vancouver was delayed by approximately 4 hours as a result of the incident.
