A hole the size of a fist was left in the wing of an Air New Zealand A320 plane after a bird strike.
The plane was travelling from Melbourne to Christchurch when it was struck, however nobody noticed at the time.
An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said that the aircraft was already back in the air after the incident.
“Engineers observed some damage from a suspected bird strike … following the arrival of our Melbourne-Christchurch service yesterday,” she told Press.co.nz.
“Aircraft repairs were completed overnight in Christchurch and the aircraft is back in service.”
This incident comes after the much-publicised landing of a US Airways plane into New Yorkโs Hudson River following a bird strike.

They will report any little thing now, won’t they? I have seen all sorts of bird impacts, but never a “clean through hole”, must be some birds they have down there! ๐
