Looks like tonight and tomorrow are going to be a huge nightmare for the airlines! Already this evening Gatwick and London City closed temporarily to clear snow. About 4 EZY’s went to EMA, 1 to STN. 2 Ryanairs went to BHX and 1 to BOH. 2 BA 737’s also came to STN, then 2 LCY bound RJ’s went to LTN. It’s gonna be a messy one, and I for one aren’t looking forward to having to sort it out tomorrow at work!

Had a quick look in at GLA on my way past and noticed a BA 744 (G-BNLE) and 772 (G-VIIW) parked up, the 744 was on the lo-co stands amongst the Easyjets and the 772 on stand at the international pier

We have a BA 777 on the ground at NCL, aswell as a 747 and something else possibly a 767. Flights from Philidelpia, Dakar and Nassau.
Work today has been interesting to say the least!
Flybes have been delayed. I think SOU is closed completely a flight i was dealing with has just gone delayed even further!
Easyjet AGP and BCN Cancelled.
This morning Air France was due to go out at 9am after been delayed since 6.20 but was then cancelled when the hold door wouldn’t close.
KL957/958 KL961/962 Cancelled!

Well, some spotters will be in for a treat! A handful of BA 777s/747s have diverted to MAN, GLA, CWI and one even to BCN.

Blue skies and sunshine down here in the south – Shame, I could really have done with another duvet day 😉

All I can say is I’m glad this has happened now and not next week when I start flying out for various concerts in various countries. Not good for the unfortunate sods who do have to travel now though! I hope for their sake things arn’t delayed too much.

STN closed again for half hour a little while ago and is currently re-open with a 36m wide strip. Here’s the latest view out the window:

And this is why I soon got stuck attempting to drive to work:

Well this is the latest from BAA’s website:
02 February 2009
Due to the current adverse weather conditions all BAA airports in the South East are experiencing significant delays and cancellations and passengers are advised to contact their airlines before leaving for the airport.
At a glance:
Heathrow: Up until 8:15am, Heathrow had been operating with one runway but now both runways are closed (although we are hoping to reopen the Southern Runway again soon) – there are significant delays and over 250 cancellations
Gatwick: Currently open but significant delays and cancellations
Stansted: Runway was initially closed but opened at 7am – significant delays and cancellations
Southampton: closed – significant delays but hoping to open the runway mid-morning
With bus and rail services affected and difficult road conditions across the country, please take extra care and time if you do intend travelling to the airport.
Good luck to anyone wanting to fly for the next few days…just remember though, any delays and/or cancellations will be out of the airlines control due to the weather conditions, so don’t expect much (if any) compensation, but more importantly, please do not take your anger/stress out on the staff who have managed to get into work; although they are there to help, they will be limited as to what help they can offer. No need for raised tempers, voices or indeed fists!

LTN has had a handful of LGW diverts; a bunch of EZY and FR, a couple of biz, SAS 737 LN-TUA, Monarch A300 G-MAJS , Easyjet G-TTOI is on its way in. Also as already mentioned 2 BA RJs from LCY.
Cheers, Huw:)

Just got through the front door having abandoned my car half a mile away. We’re absolutely screwed down here, it took half hour to get the car cleared and off the driveway. Having slid most of the way down my road, I couldn’t get up the hill at the other end and so now my car is just stuck in the middle!
Really not sure what’s going to happen…looks like I’m some how gonna have to work from home. STN and LCY are closed currently, LHR has 1 runway open. It seems that most of the LHR heavies are managing to land, but all aircraft waiting to depart Europe for LHR have got ridiculous 400min (6 hour!) slot delays.

Paul, you should know bl00dy well after Thursday in MAN that I’m not very good with the cold.
Your office where you’ll be sorting it all out from isn’t that cold, surely?! 😀
And yeah… MAN really was rather chilly. Good thing The Romper had those fires going for when we left the AVP to thaw you out! 🙂

Not a snow flake to be seen here, I expect GLA to be operating normally…

THe issue is the staff who came over to servisair and their contracts. So all leading down to staffing issues!
By: B77W - 1st February 2009 at 23:37
Fire Service – 2300 – 0500
Servisair / Airport Authority 0500 – 2300
Is that quite a recent agreement then? As last time there was snow, I heard that was the issue.
By: LBA-EGNM - 1st February 2009 at 23:26
I doubt it, since nobody is actually contracted to do it!
🙁
Fire Service – 2300 – 0500
Servisair / Airport Authority 0500 – 2300
Lack of trained people not helping the matter!
Or just lack of staff.

Last time, LBA was one of only two airports closed in Europe, and the other was a lot snowier than Leeds… something to be proud of, eh? 😀
I remember that. Unfortunately we live in the UK so accepting how crap we are at a lot of things is just a part of day to day life! 😀
Looking at how many snow machines lba have got you maybe waiting there until easter 😉 forcast says it will stop snowing tomorrow evening, but saying that it could well make some good photography, non-aviation style
Indeed. I don’t need planes to take photos! If it’s still white tomorrow I’ll be out with my cameras somewhere… Assuming, that is, the damned busses run!

I appear to be too northern for this weather… we had a heavy 10 minute shower in the afternoon and since then nought.
By: B77W - 1st February 2009 at 22:50
I’m hoping LBA will open again tomorrow at some point so me and my camera can brave the cold and take a few photos!

Stop whinging you southern git. It isn’t like your job is without its advantages as well is it?! 😀

Paul, you should know bl00dy well after Thursday in MAN that I’m not very good with the cold. You’re just used to it, Northerner! :p Surprisingly though, it looks like we’re actually gonna get it worse down here than up there. So you may be in luck for some nice shots tomorrow at LBA, the snow lights up the bottom of the aircraft v nicely! 😀
As for STN….well I’m listening to Essex radar. Planes are being told not to expect to land until midnight at the earlier, 75 minutes of holding. Most aircraft are accepting LGW now. What a mess already.
