Eight passengers and one crew member were hurt on a Northwest Airlines flight that hit severe turbulence yesterday. The NWA Airbus A330 was headed from Tokyo to Honolulu when it ‘encountered severe turbulence over Midway Island,” according to The Associated Press. Two passengers also were hospitalized with what the Honolulu Star-Bulletin characterized as “minor injuries.”

Those severe turbulences are not unusual over the pacific.
