A Philippine Airlines flight was forced to circle an airport in the southern Philippines because air traffic controllers were “apparently still in a Christmas holiday mood” and “came in late for work,” The Associated Press writes, citing local officials. The flight, arriving in Zamboanga after originating in Manila, had to circle between about 10 and 30 minutes until an air traffic controller showed up, according to conflicting sources quoted by AP. A Zamboanga airport official says the airport has filed a disciplinary report against the controllers. As for the controllers, AP says two showed up late while another two tower workers “were absent from duty.”
