I have to fly Singapore coming back from Hong Kong. I wonder which is the most survivable tourist class to such a long route. I know, I know…..you are to suggest me “just fly A380 suite”…..nice dream but among the filthy, cramped tourist class seats which one should I book?.
My obvious connection is London since it´s cheaper. Problem?. I,d fly STN from my hometown at 12:40, pretty enough to connect…….only if everything runs smooth.
I don´t really like BA B747-400 in tourist, I am not sure about Virgin (never flown with them), I don´t really like connections inbetween except in Europe. Air France looks great. Remember LH doesn´t fit individual screens on the seats………..so????.

Thanks Alliance

Nice one Keltic. Enjoy your ride on the 380. As for your question regarding weather in that part of the world. Well Singapore is only a stones throw from the equator, and therefore maintains a steady 30 degrees or so all year round. Those rain showers are refreshing.

Done……SQ on A380 and VS on A340 in Premium Ecconomy.

Thanks Matt, so……overseas customers at times 😀

Could anyone make me a small favour?. I have been trying to get Virgin website and I check the flights, when I want to check the prices……..it comes a page telling “we are unable to procced with your request…….” call reservation centre.
It happens in all computers I have checked over here. Does work in the UK?. Put 26th june LON-SIN (tourist) on the 22.00 flight, and then 5th July on the 23.00 flight HKG-LON (Premium Ecconomy).

Emirates business class is pretty good – especially if you get the new seats.

Try business class..you’ll never go back to cattle class again..it’s a whole new world up front

The deal you mention with Emirates sounds like a good find, with the return segments in Business. If your willing to pay the premium its the obvious choice, as long as the schedual fits your plans. Never flown BA in WT+, but a buddy of mine flew it recently on the red eye home from JFK and didnt really rate it. Also Lufthansa are slowly introducing PTVs in Eco long haul, but its still a bit of a gamble if its important to you to have a PTV.

Thanks guys. I a bit doubtfull. Lowest start from 700 pounds, and Emirates gives me rt from 1300 with business in the return flight, so about the same of BA in World Traveller Plus. I don´t know how good is this class. Virgin Atlantic has just banned me from their web, after checking the prices day by day. Now only phone booking for me, so phased out.
Cathay good fares aren´t for sale yet, and Etihad doesn´t fly from Hong Kong, like Gulf Air. Qantas departure from Hong Kong in the morning (although good to prevent june storms there), it´s not really convenient.
So Lufthansa, Air France and Swiss boring packed coach. I am affraid I wait, unless I decide for BA World Travellers Plus. As far as I remember BA is great, but unconfortable in tourist. I need a private jet………
This not really related to aviation: Summer is wet season un Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong…..so expect rain. Do you think it´s still enjoyable?. I suppose rain in june is like in Thailand……heavy, short and in the afternoon. Anyone has travelled to the area?.

Does this help?

How about Cathay?

Not sure, but I think Thai have one of the best seat pitches (37″ ?) in steerage class, but their IFE on 747’s is pretty abysmal with nothing more than the old screens above the aisles and on bulkheads. Great service, though.
34″ seat pitch in That’s economy class, and yes, there are no PTVs on the 747s. And on night flights, the inflight entertainment is switched off, making it a long flight if you are unable to sleep! Their inflight service is faultless.

A good freind of mine last week flew back from Australia with Etihad in economy and said it was the best economy class expierence he has ever had and he has done a good bit of travelling. LHR-AUH-SIN might take a bit longer than a direct flight but its worth a try and EY fares can be very competitive.
I flew with Etihad at the end of 2006, and whilst I don’t know what has changed in terms of service since then, they were a fantastic airline. Of the four flights, three were on the 777-300ER and the other was on an A340-500. Comfort, entertainment, cost and service was unbeatable.

I tend to avoid B747-400: really packed. So I have ruled out BA. I prefer the A340. I usually get a window seat and enjoy only two seats on a row instead of three. I have been told about the low density configuration of the Swiss A340. How is it?.
Have to agree, the A340/A330 is a good way to travel in economy, as long as you get a seat by the window in one of those twin chair configurations.

Hi. If you have to fly coach with any airline, you wont go far wrong with Singapore Airlines. Some say there standards are slipping somewhat, but my experiences with them are very good indeed. As for Air France i regard them as a polar opposite to SQ. As a general rule any major airline based is Asia will offer you a much more pleasant flight.

Well, Virgin to SIN is operated by Singapore A380. I have checked AF, B777 with the new seats with screens and nice interiors. I will have to look to Cathay.
I have seen something amazing, which I will probably book. Emirates, stop at Dubai. B777 and A380 tourist at 585 pounds, and one way in Business with tourist coming back for only 1330 pounds. I find it just great, specially the A380 seats (with upper bar).

Wouldn’t IB from MAD be the simplest option?
I am not sure about Virgin
They don’t fly to SIN.
Air France looks great
Looks great in what sense? Never flown longhaul with them, but thought they were pretty awful on Shorthaul Business Class.
