I have just done online check-in for my flight to Dublin with bmi tomorrow to save the hassle of having to queue up at the check-in desks in the morning, however, their online system has simply assigned my friend and I two seats (26EF) and it won’t allow me to change them at all (I wanted something closer to the front if I could!)…
Does anyone know of a reason as to why we cant change the seat selection?
Most other airlines that allow you to do online check-in give you the option of choosing and changing your seat, and its not like we are the last two people to check-in, as our boarding passes say Seq No. 1 & 2.
If I had decided not to do online check-in, I would of at least been able to of made a request with the agent at the check-in desk of where I would like us to be seated, but by that time the choice of seats would have been limited because of all the other people that will have checked-in online?!

Do you have a Blue card or a Blue Plus card? Only a Blue Plus card will get you free catering.
Unfortunatley I only have a Blue Card, so this will explain why I dont get free food/drink.
As it happened on our way out the flight was downgraded to an A319, so we ended up being seat-changed at the gate into seats that were further forward.
However, our flight home was on A320 and so we were sat at the back, but overall the flights were really good and cabin crew were really friendly. One funny thing was just before we pushed back at DUB, the cabin attendant noticed someone’s phone was ringing, and she asked around saying to turn it off…she then realised the ringing sound was coming from the galley!!!

It is never a good idea to buy an economy saver ticket. Economy Standard is only £2-£5 more expensive in the vast majority of cases, allows you to select your seat and crucially is also changeable. It also gives you a few more miles IIRC too.

bmi card holders get free food, but everyone else has to pay.
Yipee! I am a blue card holder so I should be able to get something…shame my friend isnt, as he’ll have to pay if he wants anything…:p!

Does anyone know if I will get anything to eat/drink onboard or not?
I would think food and drink will be available to buy.

Only Economy (and higher) can choose where they sit, economy saver or whatever they call it (which is £2 cheaper than economy) doesn’t allow you to.
Thanks for that Northern Git, I am travelling on an economy saver ticket, the lowest that was available on the website…so that explains it! Strange how that is not mentioned on the website that I could see, otherwise I would of considered paying that bit more for a better seat, but as its only an hours flight I am sure I can manage.
You can still request a change by going to check-in although this rather defeats the point of trying to avoid the queues.
Indeed.:)

If you are traveling in economy+, once you’ve checked in (online), you can’t change your seat.
The chances are the flight wont be full, so just wait until the seatbelt sign has been turned off, and ask to move – it worked for me.

Possibly due to the type of ticket you are travelling on, some airlines keep things like choosing your seat (and sitting at the front) for those on full fare tickets.

Have a good trip.
