Passengers totalling more than one-in-20 of the entire North East population have flown on Emirates Airline in its first year serving Newcastle International Airport.
The daily service has carried over 140,000 people since its launch on September 1 last year, with hundreds of passengers flying every day to, from and beyond Emirates’ home base of Dubai.

Emirates 330
its gr8 now that Emirates have been here a year it’s made such a change, when i saw aircraft go over i could barely see them, when Emirates goes over it’s clear as anything!

I read a quote from the Emirates UK manager (or someone similar) who said they’re looking into upgrading the route to 777-200. It’s their strongest UK startup route ever.
1 in 20 of the North East population have used it apparently.

According to local media, the 1st year NCL has had 140 000+ passengers. In BHX’s first year they had 125 000 (according to BBC Radio Newcastle)

EK 777’s are great I must say!
Have to agree. In two weeks time the good lady and I are off to Australia from GLA using the Emirates 777-300ER and, as it’s a “celebration” holiday , we are pushing the boat out and flying business class. Can’t wait

I see it take off or land just about every day! :diablo:
Theres just something about EK’s A330’s! I recall the first day of the service i aswell as most of the airport watched the first flight depart amazeing sight we almost thought it wouldn’t make it off the ground.
I can honestly say that this service has done wonders for the Airport and the North East as a whole.
With regards to the 777, I think NCL could handle one in a full passenger carrying role but only just! i think were limited by our runway! It is been extended over the winter so maybe that will give us something to work with!
We have taken 777’s in the past from BA but never operating a full flight out. The biggest aircraft to ever do a passenger aircraft to operate a flight out of NCL over the past few years has been the 747.

Wow, its been a year already, that really did go by fast! Great thats its still going strong, surely now its only a mater of time until it gets upgraded? But the issue is can NCL support a T7 on the ramp and runway? Might be possible, im just asking you guys, not saying it as a statement…:diablo: I personally think it would be better if they operated the route twice daily, both with 330s. What time is the current one around, morning i presume?

Well with the fuel market at it’s current/future state, and the demand at NCL, i’m sure it makes more sense for UAE to use 1 777, then 2 A330s.

Well MAN was the same.
* 1 daily flight with the A330 (back when they used Terminal 3).
* 2 daily flights with the B773/A330
* 2 daily flights with the B773
_________
BHX now has, 2 daily flights with the B773/A330, so i’m guessing it’s only a matter of time until the A332 service is upgraded too.

You never know, one day EK may serve NCL with a real aircraft – the 777. :rolleyes:
(Coming for an A330 fan/frequent traveller)
Well it’s been almost four and half years since Emirates came to Glasgow and there’s been no looking back. Starting with an A330, the regular site of a daily Boeing 777-300 is now common. Emirates seem to be one of the few airlines getting it right these days, no doubt their geographical location makes a difference in these days of crazy oil prices…:rolleyes:

I’ve seen EK take off a few times, not done the service yet, I will one day though! The aircraft is beautifal, especially when gracing the skies of Newcastle 😛
