80s BA Advert/Poster

I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me. I’m searching for a British Airways poster from the mid 80s. It’s of a young pale blond boy, possibly sitting on the wing of a plane, or something like that. I’ve tried contacting the BA musuem, but they cannot find it, or seem to know what I’m talking about! And I’ve trawled through google images, but with no luck!

I’m trying to get hold of the poster as a surprise for my boyfriend, who was the boy in the poster. If anyone knows where I could get hold of the poster or point me in the right direction, or even know what I’m talking about, it would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks!

Try the BA museum at LHR,if they cannot help then i have no idea where you may get this item. The folks at LHR are very helpfull and there is normally a charge for research/copy of the item.

It might help to find out the approximate date the picture was taken then ask which advertising agency had a contract with BA at the time. If I remember rightly BA had exclusive contracts with agencies for quite long periods around that time. If you can pinpoint the agency it is much more likely to keep records and copies than BA, which keeps very little other than legally required records. The agency is also likely to be a whole lot more helpful towards you.

Good luck.

Wasn’t it Saatchi n Saatchi in the 80’s? Try them.
Famous for the multi-people images on the beach. Possibly the best ads ever made.

If you look in ‘Airliner World’ magazine it has an events column. It gives dates and venues for fairs both here and overseas. Coming up here in the UK we have the Luton Aircraft Enthusiasts Fair this Saturday, Oct 4th, then on the 19th there is The Aviation Society Fair, Manchester, at the Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham. And there’s a good one at Kempton Park on Dec 14th. I have a feeling the Manchester one got cancelled, not sure though…

Thanks everyone for your help 🙂
I’ve already had a look on ebay, but I’ll try calling BA, and then maybe I’ll have to go to a fair!

Give BA a call, ask for marketing, see what they can do. I have found them pretty helpful for things like this in the past. They may have something in their archives, or if you can get your other half to tell him which agency used him for the advert, they would almost certainly have a copy.

Best of luck!

I hope so too! He’s never had a copy of it so it would mean a lot to him to finally have one 🙂

There’s a couple of airline memorablia collectors fairs at Heathrow and Gatwick a couple of times a year, usually spring and autumn time… Loads of old posters, timetables, postcards etc etc. Keep an eye out and you might get what you’re after.

I know how it feels to be looking (or wanting) a bit of your own history. I’ve been trying to piece together my past for a while now. Its not easy!

What an intruiging request.

I’m interested in seeing how this pans out! I hope someone here can help.
