The full catalogue of errors that led to the shambolic opening of Heathrow’s new £4.3billion Terminal 5 can be revealed today.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled and tens of thousands of bags went missing during a series of disasters on 27 March, which unions claimed could have been avoided.

It has been from about a week after the opening. BA are recording the best ever perfromance figures at LHR and breaking records weekly. It is safe to visit, it is a very pleasant flying experience, as mentioned earlier, I travel through there weekly, no problems at all yet.

Likewise from my perspective as crew working from there.
I’m not hugely pro BA management but this story started by the Unite union really annoyed me.

Again the media doesn’t let truth and fact get in the way of a decent story, here’s the reality……….
Willie addresses misleading media reports
Chief executive Willie Walsh has addressed misleading reports in today’s media that Terminal 5 is losing around 900 bags a day.
The reports follow evidence by the Unite trade union to the ongoing Transport Select Committee hearing into T5’s opening.
Willie said: “Firstly, these transfer bags are not lost. They are delayed as they connect between flights, often for the simple reason that the incoming flight was late.
“The large majority of these delayed bags are flown into Heathrow by other airlines for transfer onto one of our flights. Often, the fact they do not reach our aircraft is not the fault of either BA or Terminal 5.”
He said that issuing misleading figures without context was “very unhelpful” and had led to more bad press for T5. This, he said, will only serve to undermine customer confidence in the building.
“Having an amazing new terminal at Heathrow gives us a strong competitive advantage. Undermining it will give a boost to our competitors in these challenging economic times,” he said.
The number of transfer bags being delayed at Heathrow has more than halved compared to this time last year, while direct baggage performance at Terminal 5 remains well above 99 per cent.
Willie added: “Our performance at Heathrow has significantly improved since we moved into the new facility and is as good as, if not better than, our competitors.
“It is important that we do not allow the mistakes of the past to undermine our future in T5 or to undo the hard work all of you have put in to make our new Heathrow home the great success that we knew it would be.
“As we approach the busy summer period we can continue to show that T5 is the great terminal our customers deserve.”
I hasten to add I travel through T5 each week, fantatsic facility, no hassles, love it.
