Bangladesh Biman to get 777s and 787s

Boeing, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Sign Deal for B777s, B787s
23-Apr-2008

Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Boeing announced the airline’s order for four B777-300ER and four B787-8 Dreamliner aircraft at a signing ceremony in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

The order for new Boeing aircrafts represents a major step forward in the airline’s reorganisation and growth plans. The airline also has purchase rights for four B777s and four B787s.

Dr M.A Momen, Biman’s Managing Director, said “Clearly, Biman needs modern, fuel-efficient and reliable airplanes to move forward with our expansion and better serve our country’s growing travel needs… our competitive assessment of both the B777-300ER and the B787-8 Dreamliner was extensive and has led to our making the very best decision based on our own defined operational parameters. We have selected the best airplanes to fulfill our mission requirements, and that mission is the continued growth and success of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.”

Biman currently connects Bangladesh with 18 countries around the world, and has agreements in place that will allow it to serve a total of 42 countries as it implements its growth plan.

And they’re ordering 2x 737-800s too. Looking to lease one or maybe two 777’s until 2013, and I think they’re likely to try and lease some 737s in the short term too.
