Sparrows

You can find team details on the red sparrows web site – see announcement of site in an earlier thread.

But

Lead is Howard Cook who flies Spit and Hurri for HAC.

No 2 is Clive Denny also Spit and Hurri for HAC

No 3 is Ian Davies – editorial person at Pilot mag

No 4 is AVM Chris Harper, very experienced formation pilot and RAF bid wig.

Team name came from being similar (well slightly!) to the Red Arrows only slower. It is a name which the team picked up in the first season of operating and stuck.

The Arrows know about it and approve.

The Sparrows won new team of the year approval from the CAA and display community last year.

Currently a four ship with aircraft from Duxford, Felthorpe, and Seething.

The name is too similar to “The Silver Sparrows” which were the Auster formation team from Ipswich! Perhaps that’s where the idea came from!

You must be kidding! Great fun I reckon, Wonder what the real ‘REDS’ think! 😀

I reckon its good fun and I am sure they will be populer with the families etc at the odd airshow. Good luck to em I say!

I seem to recall you could vote for the name in Pilot magazine?

By the way very nice pics too!! 🙂

Was it the Red Sparrows that flew at Dux’s Autumn airshow last year in camo’d up chipmunks.
Not sure about the name, but great photo’s all the same.

Don’t know about anyone else but I really cringe when I read the name Red Sparrows, I think its a terrible name.

Yes, I agree. I particularly like the Rapide shot as well.
